Canada comes calling for Alberta Basketball's Krikke

Jun. 24, 2018

Alberta Basketball alum Ben Krikke of Edmonton will once again be representing his country this summer.

The six-foot-seven forward was among the 12 athletes that Canada Basketball announced on Sunday will part of its team at the 2018 FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup in Rosario and Santa Fe, Argentina from June 30 - July 8, 2018.

Krikke is the only player from outside Ontario and Quebec selected to the roster, and will be competing for Team Canada for a second straight year. He made his international debut last June at the 2017 FIBA U16 Americas Championship in Formosa, Argentina, where he averaged 5.8 points and 6.0 rebounds while shooting .591% from the field, second on the team, to help Canada capture silver.

A Grade 11 student at Jasper Place high school, Krikke played for Alberta Basketball’s 15U team at the Canada Basketball National Championships in 2015 and 2016, and was a member of the 2017 Alberta 17U team that won silver at the Canada Summer Games last August.

Canada is in Group C at the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup, and will face Montenegro, Egypt and New Zealand in the group phase of the tournament. Click here for the full tournament schedule.
