2017 Team Alberta Coaches


Basketball Alberta will offer four provincial teams this coming summer - 15U Boys and Girls and 17U Boys and Girls.  The 15U Teams will compete at the Canada Basketball National Championships in Regina from July 24th - 29th while the 17U Teams will have the special opportunity to go to Winnipeg to compete in the 50th Canada Summer Games August 1st-7th.  Basketball Alberta is proud to announce the following four head coaches and coaching staffs who will lead the 2017 edition of Team Alberta.

Nathan McKibbon

Nathan, a native of Hamilton, Ontario, has a wide range of coaching experience spanning 17 seasons in women's basketball. McKibbon has coached at all levels from high school and club - all the way to the provincial and national level. This past summer he served as the performance analyst for Team Canada’s Women’s National Junior Team. Nate is currently the Head Coach for the Mount Royal Cougars Women’s team.

Coach Midford brings 24 years of coaching basketball at all levels.  He currently coaches the Assumption Varsity Boys program in Cold Lake, leading them to a Top 10 Provincial Ranking in the 2A division.  Coach Midford takes over the 15U Alberta team after a successful summer in 2016 leading the 16U Alberta squad as a head coach.

Dave Waknuk
 
 
Head Coach
 
Coach Waknuk takes over 17U Team Alberta squad, making this his sixth consecutive summer with Basketball Alberta.  Dave is currently the Lead Assistant Coach at the University of Lethbridge Women's program.  He was formerly the Head Coach of the GPRC Wolves Women’s Basketball team where he lead them to the ACAC Championship in 2011 as well as earning ACAC North Division Coach of the Year honors.
 
 
Clayton Pottinger

Clayton is currently the Head Coach of the Red Deer College Kings. Clayton is a multiple time winner of the ACAC Coach of the Year and won back to back ACAC titles in 2013 & 2014.  Clayton was the 2014 CCAA Coach of the Year and his RDC team made the CCAA Championship Game where they claimed the silver medal.  Clayton is a University of Alberta alumnus and won a CIS National title as a player while suiting up for the Golden Bears in 1994.
