Plouffe is a three-time Olympian, having represented Canada in women’s basketball at the Summer Games in 2012 and 2016, as well as in women’s 3x3 basketball at the 2024 Summer Games.
With the Canadian senior women’s national team, Plouffe won gold at the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup in 2015 and 2017 and the Pan-Am Games in 2015. She also represented her country at the FIBA World Cup in 2014 and 2018.
As a member of the Canadian women’s 3x3 team, Plouffe twice won the FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series championship, in 2022 and 2023, and captured a silver medal at the 2022 FIBA 3x3 World Cup.
Before her spectacular international career, Plouffe spent three years playing for Team Alberta, and was part of the province’s historic first gold medal triumph in female basketball at the 2009 Canada Summer Games.
Her impact was felt well beyond competition, as an ambassador for her sport and role model for youth.
Plouffe will be honoured with a special ceremony during the FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series at West Edmonton Mall on Aug. 2.
“While it is bittersweet to see Michelle's playing career come to its conclusion, we couldn't be happier for her to be able to recognize this milestone here in her home province, and particularly in Edmonton,” says Dave Drabiuk, Alberta Basketball Association Executive Director.
“Michelle will continue to inspire and lead in the sport that she has become synonymous with thanks to her new role with Canada Basketball,” Drabiuk adds. “Our congratulations to Michelle on a storied and exhilarating career.”
