A Parent/Guardian’s Role in Youth Basketball

New Free Resource for Basketball Parents & Guardians

Canada Basketball is proud to launch a new free eLearning module, A Parent/Guardian’s Role in Youth Basketball, now available on Game Plan.

This interactive module is designed to support parents and guardians in creating positive, safe, and meaningful sport experiences for young athletes.

Through simple stories, real-life scenarios, and guided reflection, participants will learn how to:

  • Support their child’s long-term development
  • Build confidence and enjoyment in sport
  • Contribute to safe, positive basketball environments
  • What effective support looks like on game day and beyond

The course emphasizes the idea of stewardship, that everyone involved in the game, including parents and guardians, plays a role in leaving it better for the next generation.

This module is free, self-paced, and accessible to anyone. It can be done at any time and users can apply what they learn immediately through downloadable reflection tools and action planning. We encourage all members, coaches, clubs, officials, and athletes, to share this resource directly with the parents and guardians in your programs.

Access the free course today on Game Plan and help build a better basketball experience for every child.
