Albertans set to compete in March Madness

A trio of Albertans are headed for March Madness this year.

Edmontonians Marial Akuentok (Texas Tech) and Onyx Nnani (South Florida), along with Calgary’s JC Brooks (Tennessee State) are all members of teams that will be part of the 2026 NCAA Division 1 men’s basketball tournament. The field of 68 teams was unveiled Sunday.

The 2026 NCAA D1 men’s basketball tournament runs from March 17 to April 6, culminating with the Final Four in Indianapolis.

JC Brooks
  • Hometown: Calgary
  • Sophomore Forward
  • Tennessee State Tigers (#15 seed, Midwest Region)
  • First round: vs. Iowa State, Friday (March 20) 12:50 pm MT
Onyx Nnani
  • Hometown: Edmonton
  • Freshman Forward
  • South Florida Bulls (#11 seed, East Region)
  • First round: vs. Louisville, Thursday (March 19) 11:30 am MT
