Mar. 17, 2024

The Lakeland Rustlers won the 2024 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CAAA) women’s basketball championship on Saturday (March 16), defeating the Lambton Lions 64-55 in the gold medal game at Lakeland College Gymnasium in Lloydminster.

Alberta Basketball Association (ABA) was well-represented on Lakeland’s championship-winning squad: Rustlers assistant coach Marissa Lindquist is serving as head coach of the 2024 15U Girls provincial team; while Rustlers guard Susan Ayaa played on the 2019 15U Girls provincial team.

Ayaa was named Lakeland’s Player of the Match for the championship game, after scoring 10 points and grabbing 12 rebounds against Lambton.

The Rustlers also won the 2024 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) championship earlier this month.

Lakeland College served as host of the 2024 CCAA women’s basketball championships, from March 13 to 16.
