ABA 3x3 Tour coming to locations across Alberta this June

Apr. 25, 2024

Alberta Basketball Association (ABA) is bringing the world’s No. 1 urban team sport to locations across the province this June with the 2024 ABA 3x3 Tour.

The largest ever provincial 3x3 tour for ABA will make stops in Edmonton at the Saville Community Sports Centre (June 1-2), Olds at the Ralph Klein Centre (June 7-9), Lethbridge at the University of Lethbridge (June 15-16), and Calgary at Mount Royal University (June 21-23). Divisions include 11U, 13U, 15U and 18U for boys and girls, as well as Elite, Rec, and Competitive for men and women.

Elite Division champions will qualify with paid entry fee for Hoop City 3x3, featuring the FIBA 3x3 World Tour and FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series, July 5-7 at Ice District in Edmonton.

“We're excited to be bringing 3x3 basketball to communities around our province," says Dave Drabiuk, ABA Executive Director. "Alberta is home to some of the world's most elite 3x3 players, and we look forward to watching tremendous competition on the courts this June."

With its roots in street basketball, 3x3 has gone from outdoor courts to the Olympic Games, where it will be contested this summer in Paris. The discipline of 3x3 also provides opportunity for greater involvement and skill development within young players.

ABA’s involvement with the discipline dates to 2011, when it held the first FIBA-sanctioned 3x3 tournament in Canada. Previous winners of ABA 3x3 tournaments have qualified to compete in FIBA Challenger and Masters events.

Alumni of ABA provincial team programming have gone on to excel at 3x3, including two-time Women’s Series champions Kacie Bosch, Katherine Plouffe and Michelle Plouffe, who are all members of Canada Basketball’s national women’s 3x3 team.

"Alberta Basketball has a proud history of being at the forefront of 3x3, and we are continuing building on that tradition with our national partner in the sport, Canada Basketball,” Drabiuk says.
