Alberta's 17U Boys roster announced

Apr. 29, 2024

Alberta Basketball Association (ABA) is excited to announce its 15-player roster for the 17U Boys provincial team that will compete at the 2024 Canada Basketball National Championships this summer.

“Our coaching staff has selected a special group of athletes to lead the province this summer,” says Matt Daley, head coach of the Team Alberta 17U Boys. “We are excited to get to work and believe we have the best players to represent Alberta proudly and compete for a national championship.”

Twelve players from the roster will travel to compete at the 2024 Canada Basketball 17U Men’s Tournament, Aug. 5-10 at York University in Toronto, Ont. Three players will serve as alternates, who will train with the team as it prepares for the tournament.

The roster includes a trio of players who were part of Alberta’s 17U Boys’ second-place finish at the 2023 National Championships: Patrick Anamali (hometown: Calgary), Daniel Chijoke (Fort McMurray) and Mrigendra Dhaliwal (Calgary) all return to the team after winning silver at the championships in Sherbrooke, Que., last summer.

Another three players bring National Championship experience after competing at the 15U level last summer: Kade McGeachy (Calgary), Lemar Shir (Calgary), and Elijiah Thomas (Edmonton) helped the 2023 ABA 15U Boys team place fourth in Sherbrooke.

Last summer, Alberta beat British Columbia in a thrilling 17U Men's semi-final, before being defeated by Ontario in the gold medal game at the National Championships.
